Youth Week
Youth Week
A week long celebration of young people in Maningrida.
About Youth Week
Youth Week (YW) is the inaugural celebration of young people in Maningrida.
YW is a chance for young people to express their views and ideas, showcase their talents, raise issues that matter to them and participate in events and activities that celebrate being young in this community.
It is also an opportunity for young people to learn new things like how to build safe and respectful relationships, healthy choices, strengthening their sense of self and improving their health and wellbeing.
This is a community-led event that brings together local groups, organisations and external partners to run activities that support health, wellbeing and stronger relationships.
What's on
The program is being shaped by our young leaders, community groups and local organisations to suit the needs of different youth groups.
We’ll also be inviting special guests to Maningrida to run workshops and activities that work towards these goals.
Expect a mix of:
- Creative, cultural and outdoor activities
- Sports and fitness programs
- Community events and BBQs
- Health and wellbeing checks
- Prizes, giveaways and lots of fun
- Self-care and relationship sessions
Safer relationships
Helping young people form respectful, supportive and safer relationships is an important part of Youth Week.
Workshops and discussions will explore topics like communication, boundaries, respect, gender roles, and healthy ways to handle conflict, especially between young men and women.
Our themes
Each day highlights a different theme. Activities and events will reflect the different theme.
These include:
- Healthy lifestyles (movement, sport and staying active)
- Healthy culture (traditional knowledge, skills and storytelling)
- Healthy habits (wellbeing, resilience and positive choices)
- Healthy relationships (connection to partners, family, friends and community)
